Pattern: Chinese Lanterns

A little Asia-inspired shaping carries over into a sweetly feminine accessory  to subtly dress up your every day looks--or commemorate a special occasion. If you play with gauge and length, you can easily transform the pattern into a headband or necklace. As for me, I'm going to wear it as a wedding garter when the big day rolls around. Ready, lovelies?

Needle size: US 2
Yarn: Malabrigo Lace, approx. 30-60 yds depending on length of item
Optional: About a yard or less of slim ribbon
Gauge is not important for this pattern.

-Leaving a three-inch tail, cast on 6 stitches knitwise.
-Rows 1-10: Knit all.
-Row 11: Knit 1, *knit into front and back of stitch*, repeat * * to last stitch, knit 1.
-Row 12: Purl all.
-Row 13: *Knit 1, make 1* 4 times, knit 2, *make 1, knit 1* across rest of row.
-Rows 14 & 16 & 18: Purl all.
-Rows 15 & 17: Knit all.
-Row 19: Knit 1, *Slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over* 4 times, knit two together 4 times, knit 1.
-Row 20: Purl all.
-Row 21: Knit 1, *Slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over* 2 times, knit 2 together 2 times, k1

Repeat Rows 1-21 until desired length, ending with Row 2. Bind off.
Seam edges together with tail, or use tails as a tie, or weave in ends and use a slim ribbon to fasten.
